Cranberry Apple Blueberry Sauce
OK, so it's August. Nothin' wrong with having Thanksgiving turkey and all the fixins' a little bit earlier than usual, right? Actually, it was out of necessity. We were making all this ice cream and needed more space in the freezer, so I took out the big frozen turkey to make room.
Then as we were gobbling down our turkey, we ran out of cranberry sauce! Mon dieu! Time to make more. See how one thing leads to another?
Cranberry Apple Blueberry Sauce
Makes about 3 1/2 cups.
Combine in a medium saucepan:
1 bag (12oz) cranberries
1 cup sugar (200g)
1 cup water
1 cup peeled, cored, diced apples (about 1 large apple or 2 med apples)
handful of blueberries
juice from half of an orange
Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until.cranberries pop, approx. 15-20 min.
Let cool to room temperature and refrigerate.
Notes: Cranberry sauce recipes are very flexible and forgiving. I happened to have lots of apples, so I threw some in. Also, blueberries are currently in season so I had some of those on hand as well. Have fun experimenting!
